A PENSIONER who makes cakes for charity has found a new fan of his baking - the Prime Minister.

Jack Morgan has baked around 50 cakes a week over the past eight years for community groups to raffle off as prizes and has raised more than £40,000.

But this week the Labour supporter was delighted to hear that Tony Blair had become the latest fan of his rich fruit cake after being presented with one by Bolton South-east MP Brian Iddon.

The 81-year-old retired motor parts salesman, of Oaks Street, Kearsley, baked his first cake as a 'thank you' to a friend who had done him a good turn. He soon realised the potential for helping out local groups, as well as friends and family. Among the different organisations that have benefited from Jack's delicacies - including his renowned chocolate cake and jam sponge - are the Farnworth ex-serviceman's club, Farnworth Cricket Club and the Manchester Scots Guards Association pipe band.

Jack said: "I wanted to bake something for Tony Blair because he has been getting a bit of rough ride lately and I think he is a good man."

Despite raising thousands of pounds through his cakes, Jack has only ever sold one - a cup cake for just 40p.

Dr Iddon said: "I told Jack that it would not be easy getting a cake to the Prime Minister but he insisted it had to be done.

" Tony loved it and has joined Jack's growing legion of fans."
