FOUR people were taken to hospital after two car crashes in Hindley.

In the first accident, the 21-year-old driver of a Fiat Punto suffered neck and facial injuries after his car was in collision with a Nissan Almera in Hall Lane at 11.20pm on Thursday night.

Fire crews spent 20 minutes cutting the roof off the car to free the man, who comes from Hindley.

He was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary along with the driver and passenger of the Nissan, who suffered chest injuries from their seatbelts. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

In an earlier accident in Atherton Road, a Subaru hatchback driven by a 29-year-old woman was in collision with a Toyota Corolla.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 7.20pm after reports that the crashed cars were blocking the road.

The womans two children, a boy, aged six, and a four-year-old girl, who were in the car, were not injured but the woman, from Hindley, was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary with minor chest injuries.

The 30-year-old woman driver of the Toyota and her 23-year-old male passenger suffered minor whiplash injuries.
