A MAN who set up a highly successful law firm in Bolton nearly 29 years ago has closed his legal books for the last time.

Martin Kippax has retired from Kippax Beaumont Lewis after spending nearly three decades in the legal profession.

Mr Kippax set up his practice with Mike Beaumont back in 1976 when they founded Kippax Beaumont & Co.

The company merged in 1985 with Lewis & Co where they became KBL.

The firm, which is based on Mawdsley Street, has grown from four to more than 40 employees.

The 58-year-old has been involved in many areas of law but has specialised for the last 15 years in employment litigation.

Mr Kippax, said: "During my time at KBL, I have had the pleasure of working with some loyal and dedicated staff, some have been here nearly as long as I have. Many of our clients have been with us for over 30 years as well.

"The reliability and continuity of service that the firm has given over the years has served KBL well. Now we also have many younger members of staff who we hope will be with us for just as long. There is no secret to our success, except that we still enjoy what we do and we've always done the job that we've been asked to do."

Phil Stephenson, managing partner at KBL, said: "All the partners would like to thank Martin for his commitment and dedicated service over the years and we wish him every happiness in his retirement."

Mr Kippax plans to spend more time on the golf course and has just been made chairman of the Championship Committee by The Royal & Ancient, golf's governing body.
