WIGAN ATHLETIC 2, MILLWALL 0: Wigan's strike duo of Nathan Ellington and Jason Roberts were both on target against Millwall at the JJB Stadium to keep Paul Jewell's side at the top of the table.
The duo notched up their 40th goal of the season between them, to put the Latics in a commanding position ahead of Sunderland at the Championship summit.
The home side were lucky not to go behind when Millwall had penalty appeals waved away after Ian Breckin appeared to handle the ball.
Ellington was then given the opportunity to put his side in front after Gary Teale was brought down in the box, and the striker confidently stroked the ball home from the spot in the 58th minute.
Roberts wrapped up the win with a delicate chip over keeper Andy Marshall from the edge of the box with eight minutes left to play.
A delighted Wigan assistant manager Chris Hutchings said after the game: "We say that we've got to defend from the front and we expect a lot from our strikers.
"Ellington and Roberts have got 40 goals which is a fantastic return.
"Any strike force that gets 40 goals, you expect to be at the top of the league."
