THREE Bolton Business owners took time out to organise a Race Night in aid of the British Red Cross.

Gary Lovatt, Chris Halloran, Daniel Robinson handed over a cheque for more than £2,000 to Gemma McIlroy of the Red Cross after working hard in the weeks leading up to the event to encourage businesses and friends to get involved.

Their efforts paid off with more than 25 businesses sponsoring the event and 100 people going along to place bets and join in the fun.

Mr Lovatt said that the response from both the business community and public in general showed how much could be done with a little effort.

"I am delighted with the response we had," he said. "The Red Cross continues to provide valuable rebuilding following the Tsunami but their resources are still also being stretched in other places across the world. For Bolton's part we have shown that we are willing to come together to offer them this much needed support however we can. Its been a great success all round.Red Cross Senior Fundraiser Gemma McIlroy said: "Raising so much money will go a long way towards providing vital services that are needed on a daily basis.

"The efforts of everyone who got involved in this event are truly appreciated by us."

Those who did not attend the event but would still like to offer their support can still donate online at www.justgiving.com/garysappeal.
