A TEENAGE girl is in hospital suffering from serious head injuries after being knocked down in Astley.
Carmen Mather, aged 14, was hit by a silver Land Rover Freelander on Monday at 8.15am, as she crossed the road near to a bus stop on Astley Street, at its junction with Ennerdale Road.
She was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital, after paramedics treated her at the scene. She was then transferred to Pendlebury Childrens Hospital for treatment of serious head injuries. Her condition was described as poorly.
A police spokesman said: "An investigation is now being conducted to establish the circumstances of the incident."
