music lovers were treated to a evening of delights on the second night of ensembles organised by Bolton Music Service.

More than 1,000 young people will be taking part in the event, which ends on Thursday night, to promote Bolton's musical groups.

Monday night was an eclectic mix of styles, from Samba to Mozart and Flamenco to Gershwin, which played to an audience of more than 300 people.

Liz Forrest, from Bolton Music Service, said: "It went very well and was extremely well received by the audience. The highlights included a performance of When It's a Sunny Day by Westhoughton Training Choir. The choir was actually conducted by one of the primary school pupils on that number. It was very impressive."

Meanwhile, the Withins Community Drumming and Vocal Band, which was launched at Withins High School this year, entertained the crowd with some traditional African drum music.

Bolton Youth String Quartet then performed Allegro Vivace Assai, by Mozart, for the classical music enthusiasts in the audience.

Mrs Forrest added: "We had a rousing finale from Bolton Youth Concert Band, who played a selection of songs from Miss Saigon."

On Tuesday night the ensembles, at the Albert Halls, will feature music from the Bolton Intermediate Wind Ensemble, who will be playing a version of (Is This The Way To) Amarillo and the theme to Star Trek.

Music also comes from The Little Lever Training Choir, Bolton Beginners Brass Band, Bolton Training String Orchestra, Bolton Youth Flute Choir and the BMS Singers.

The event, which starts at 7pm, will be brought to a swinging finish by the Bolton Youth Jazz Orchestra, who will be performing music by Thad Jones including Us and Big Dipper.
