THE match of the day was between Hulton Lane and Party People, who started the day first and second in the Pioneer Sunday League Premier Division.
Hulton Lane proved too strong for their fellow title challengers as they ran out 4-2 winners with goals from Barrett, Moss and two from Holroyd.
Astley Miners moved into second place with a 3-1 home victory over White Horse. Powell made the difference with two goals with the Miners' other being scored by Moss.
Ellesmere still have a chance of the title if they win their games in hand after a 3-0 victory over Masons Arms, goals from Markland, Nicholson and Adams.
Farmers Arms produced a 3-0 away victory over Daisy Hill with two goals from Green and Cannon. In Division One, Sharples beat Hall i'th' Wood 5-3, Banks and Swannall each scoring two with Fairclough hitting the other.
Horwich St Mary's had an impressive 3-2 win at Greyhound. Horwich's goals came from Prescott, Ivers and a penalty from Mercer.
Little Lever had no trouble seeing off the challenge of Bolton City as they ran out 10-1 winners.
