Don't Dress for Dinner, Tyldesley Little Theatre'Until Saturday:To the outside world, Bernard and Jacqueline seem like the perfect, loved-up couple: devoted to each other and living an idyllic life in their ultra-modern Paris flat.
But, as in many "perfect" marriages, things are not quite as they seem.
One weekend, the devious Bernard - a fine performance from Ian Taylor - plans a cosy tryst with his mistress - the glamorous, sexy Suzanne (Alexandra Jones). He is aided and abetted by his good friend Robert (Jog Maher), who will, he predicts, provide the perfect alibi for him while his wife is away looking after a relative.
However, there is one problem which he doesn't foresee - his wife.
When she discovers that Robert is coming to stay, she cancels her plans for the weekend and inadvertently puts a dampener on her husband's plans for a weekend "pour deux".
When Suzette the agency cook turns up - a brilliant comic performance from Lisa Garrish - all hell breaks loose, and the plot really start to twist and turn with mistaken identities of nightmarish proportions. It makes your head spin just trying to keep up with all the plots.
Director Mike Jeffries sets a cracking pace for the small cast, and on Tuesday night they did not put a foot wrong.
They were word perfect in a comedy that keeps you guessing right to the end what the outcome will be - will Bernard sleep with Suzanne, will Jacqueline and Robert get together, and will Suzette get the man of her dreams?
