STAFF at the Bolton office of law firm Keoghs took part in a football tournament with a difference to raise money for Comic Relief. Teams of two paid to enter and played tabletop football during lunchtime in the staff cafe.

Trophies for the competition winners were presented by former Everton and England footballer Martin Dobson, the husband of Keoghs newly appointed catering manager Carol. After being released by Bolton Wanderers, Martin Dobson signed for Burnley 1967. He was captain of the 1972-73 Second Division Championship side, before being transferred to Everton for a record £300,000. During this period he made five appearances for England. He was the Academy Director at Wanderers for four years and is now Northern Scout for Ipswich Town.

The winning team were partner Don Clarke and solicitor Paul Roberts. The event was so popular that the organisers had to ration places and only those with a "track record" in table football were allowed to enter.

"All the teams were clearly competitive, and it was so enjoyable that it is going to become an annual event," said a spokesman for the firm.

More than £600 was raised during the day in total. Staff were also encouraged to dress in red for the day and other events included a raffle, selling jokes, various games, sponsored fancy dress and "slave for a day".
