THE Halliwell Winter Rounders League completed its season with the final league positions already settled.
Matches were played on 19 of the 20 scheduled weeks with only one day being cancelled because of a snow storm during the morning.
With only one defeat throughout the season, Westhoughton & District won again, beating third placed Darcy XI to finish nine points clear of Fox Trots who could muster only seven players, but still managed to beat Lower Pools.
In the other Division One game, St Mary's pulled out all the stops in their second innings to beat Smithills Coaching House by 53 after leading by five at the break.
Future XI finished their unbeaten season in Division Two and a disappointing manner as opponents Beer Monsters conceded the match. Runners-up, Young Darcy, did however have a match and it was a match they had to work hard to win against The Three Pigeons.
Young Darcy had a 50-run start, but were only 17 ahead after the first innings. Having scored 54 in the first innings, they added 56 in the second, but their improved fielding performance restricted The Pigeons to 60 in the second innings, leaving Darcy winners by 13 runs.
Although Hulton Lane Ladies finished bottom of Division Two, they enjoyed their rounders and ended their season with a satisfying victory over Bolton Castle.
The League Presentation will be at Little Lever Working Men's Club on Friday April 22 when the participants will receive their rewards for a successful season.
The John Smith's Farnworth League still has two weeks to run, next Sunday and Sunday April 3 because Easter intervenes.
The top three sides all won on Sunday and are tied on 35 points. Capital could have a difficult final match next Sunday when they play fourth placed Siddons while Hanson have a free week and Adlington play Howarth Roofcraft, 28 points below them in the table.
The Championship could be decide on April 3 when Adlington and Hanson meet, but if Hanson win that encounter, they will again be tied at the top and a three-way tie is on the cards.
