A KARAOKE night at a Halliwell pub gave an unexpected boost to a mental health organisation.
Derek, a member of the Bolton Area Supported Social Environment Team (Bassett), won vouchers for 16 pints of beer in the singing competition in the New Inn.
As he does not drink alcohol, he approached the DJ to ask the audience to buy the tokens.
Derek donated £10 of the £30 raised towards BASSET's minibus fund.
Margaret and Geoff Willis, lifelong supporter of BASSETT, told the DJ about the fund. And, before long, the £10 had swelled to £60, thanks to generous customers.
Geoff added: "Two of the pub's regulars also promised to help us further by becoming fund-raisers for the minibus appeal.
"It was a great night with a fabulous atmosphere and very friendly people.
"Who says community spirit is dead certainly not at the New Inn!"
The group is fund raising today with a canopy sale in Victoria Square, Bolton town centre.
