GOOD throwing at Papermakers where both D. King and B. Garvey hit 180 but even so, both were overcome by I. Jackson who goes through to finals night.
At Staff of Life, F. Buchanan stepped in as a last-minute replacement for one of his colleagues and, after finding his first round opponent hadn't turned up, went on to win his second and third round games to find himself in the last eight.
At Swan & Railway, former champion A. Owen went through to the second round when his opponent didn't show, but was promptly despatched by A. Holl, who then lost in the third to L. Fitton.
at Old Cross, M. Yates who plays for Section Two team Victoria, showed his class by overcoming Section One opposition to reach the third round. However, K. Buchanan, playing on his home patch, was just too good and went through.
At Bridge Tavern, A. Redford reached yet another finals night, this must be his tenth, at the expense of colleague G. Parrish, who two years ago was runner-up in this competition.
At Masons Arms, D. Whitehead reached finals night more than five years ago and prevailed here again - a Section Two player overcoming Section One opponents.
Meanwhile at Beer Engine, L. Hartley ensured there would be a new name on the trophy as he accounted for A. Brocklehurst, the current champion and last three years' champion, and J. Tuccie, another three-times champion.
