A Bolton greengrocer which specialises in locally sourced organic produce is to have its goods tested on nationwide television.
The Really Green Grocer, in Church Road, Smithills, was the focus of attention when Gino D'Acampo, the star of Ready Steady Cook and This Morning, started filming for a new programme called Chef V Britain, to be aired on ITV this summer.
The show features a member of the public who challenges Gino to make a meal, which is tasted by a studio audience to see which they prefer.
The shoot took two hours, showing Gino buying organic goods for a traditional Lancashire dish.
Owner Sharon Clare said: "It was an unusual day in the life of the Really Green Grocer with the shop having to be closed whilst filming was under way. Cars were slowing down to see what was going on".
Gino bought organic carrots, potatoes, onions and button mushroom for his local dish and fruit for the crew.
Sharon said that she was sure the taste of local organic produce cooked by a chef would prove to be a winner when the show is aired.
After acquiring the greengrocer's shop in February last year, Sharon put into practice a buy local philosophy for as much of the shop's organic produce as possible, and more than half of the stock is now sourced from local organic farms.
