I have had another letter about the Bolton Public Brass Band.
Thomas Ainsworth of Pimlott Road tells me he was a member in 1938, and thinks that three brothers called Grimshaw were the organisers.
Mr Ainsworth played side drum and doubled on bass drum when necessary. The band room at that time was in a mission hall in Cable Street, off Turton Street, Bolton.
He writes: "The last time I played with this band was in the Bolton Royal Infirmary carnival in June, 1939. I dont know whether the band carried on during the war, but I am very pleased that they managed to survive the war."
Mr Ainsworth can remember three names from his time with the band - trombonist Bob Greenhalgh, cornet player Jimmy Holt and the conductor was a gentleman named Hyam.
