BOLTON Mets side were unlucky to go down 22-15 at home to Rochdale Mayfield.
The Mets opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort from acting full back Joe Harte. He collected the ball in his own goal area, raced the full length of the pitch, handing off two would be tacklers, to touch down in the corner.
Some sloppy defending by Bolton, and several unforced errors, gave the advantage to Mayfield as they ran in three tries, giving them a 16-5 lead at half time.
The second half was all Bolton, strong drives from forwards Dave Caine and Colin Crompton carved inroads into the Mayfield defence and it was not long before the Mets were back on the score sheet.
Another try from Harte, then one from Crompton brought the Mets to within one point of Mayfield. Into the final quarter and Bolton should have scored two more but both efforts were stopped just short of the line. With seconds to go an unfortunate handling error from the Mets allowed Mayfield in to seal the match.
