MY dad remembers the first line or so of a song his grandmother sang when she was in her 80s. She was the widow of Paul Thomasson, who was killed in the Pretoria Pit disaster in 1910. They lived on St Helens Road.
No one present at the time knew the song, but it had the family in stitches. We were wondering if anyone else knew the rest, and could tell us the origin.
"They 'adt fotch mi whoam in a wheelbarra, coz I'd fault n' cut me bum...."
