CANON Slade added yet another honour to their ever lengthening list of athletics achievements when their year nine girls won the national schools biathlon championships.

Rebecca Fordham, Kate Holden and Lucie Hindley went one better than last year's second place when they lifted the British Schools Modern Biathlon title at the University of Bath training village.

Rebecca was the Canon Slade team's highest finisher in the event, which required each competitor to run and swim, when she crossed the line in seventh place while Kate was 15th and Lucie finished 28th.

The school's strength at biathlon was displayed by the large number of competitors who qualified for the national finals.

The senior boys performed outstandingly well to claim the bronze medal.

Sixth formers Chris Gaffney, Andrew Higginson and Robert Burns finished 15th, 17th and 23rd respectively.

The year nine boys finished just outside the medals in fourth with Sam Gough winning a medal for his sixth place finish.

The year seven girls were fifth and year eight girls seventh while the year eight boys also did well to qualify for the finals and year 10's Rebecca Greenhalgh finished eighth after qualifying to compete individually.
