BANK Holiday ramblers at Rivington are being urged to keep their cars clear of access routes and gates by rescuers who fear they could find their routes blocked.
The plea has been made by the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team which says it is facing one of its busiest weekends of the year.
Tomorrow will see thousands descend on the area for the traditional Good Friday walk to Rivington Pike and to enjoy a fairground and attractions.
Gary Rhodes, Bolton Mountain Rescue Team leader, said: Weve had problems in the past which could have had grave consequences if the injuries had been more serious.
We dont want people to stay away from the area but they need to be aware that they can cause problems.
We would urge them to make sure they have not parked in front of any gates, whether they appear to be in use or not.
The team has been called out to as many as eight accidents at Rivington in recent years on Good Friday and will have members on standby in the area to provide a quick response to any emergencies.
Mr Rhodes added: We have had particular problems on the Lower House car park, by the terraced gardens in the past as it is the main rendezvous point for emergency services.
