TINY Nathan Pomfret brought tears of joy to his parents' eyes when he was born - because the couple have been trying for a decade to have a child.
Nathan, who weighed 8lb, was born at the Royal Bolton Hospital after mum Diane became pregnant through IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation).
The 40-year-old went into labour in the early hours of Sunday, with husband Stewart at her bedside, before Nathan Stewart Pomfret was born at 10.30am.
Diane turned to IVF 10 years ago when her fallopian tubes remained badly damaged after an operation.
Since then they have faced two miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy and four failed attempts to get pregnant.
The couple were allowed to take the youngster to their Kearsley home for the first time on Wednesday, and Diane said: "He's a miracle. We're absolutely overjoyed. We have to keep looking at him to make sure he's really there.
"He looks like his dad, and has my nose, and he's wonderful."
Diane already has two grown up children, Paul, aged 20, and Craig, aged 21, but she was desperate to have a child with Stewart.
The couple have been celebrating their new arrival at home with family and friends, and Diane said: "We've had so many visitors I can't get over it. Everyone we know is desperate to come round and have a look at him."
