So, once again, Bolton's road users are let down by the local council. (Highway maintenance £400,000 cut - March 23).
Strange, is it not, that the council can find sufficient funds for the ridiculous 'traffic calming' speed humps that now permeate most of Bolton's outlying districts, expect the townsfolk to cough up a rise in council tax, and award themselves a hefty pay rise to boot.
Just a thought. lf I did not keep my vehicle road-worthy, taxed and insured, I would not be allowed on the roads. Added to this is what every road user pays for fuel compared with Europe and the USA.
In 1969, when there were far fewer vehicles on the highways, the then road tax for the UK realised £9 million.
Of that, just £3 million was spent on building new roads and the maintenance of existing ones.
Deja vu?
So councillors, perhaps I will have to "raise my suspension", but to do so I will expect a donation commensurate with your pockets.
