LEIGH RMI 0, MORECAMBE 2: Morecambe's Michael Twiss hit two goals to earn them a 2-0 win over relegation-doomed Leigh.
Twiss, the former Manchester United youngster, notched up his 20th goal of the season and his fifth in three games as the Shrimps dominated this Lancashire derby.
The deadlock was broken on the stroke of half-time when Lee Elam played in Twiss who lashed home a left-foot shot.
The score was doubled midway through the second half when substitute Garry Thompson provided the pass for Twiss to clinically finish again. The Railwaymen never threatened after that and it was the Shrimps who nearly scored a third through Jamie Heard. And just minutes from time Twiss missed a glorious chance to complete his hat-trick.
Leigh RMI Manager Steve Bleasedale thought his side deserved at least a point after playing some good football and having a goal disallowed.
"We saw some excellent individual performances and a great team effort, and we showed that we can play with conviction and make teams work for their points.
" There is no hiding my disappointment that we have nothing to show from the game after playing well but we move on and keep on trying."
