THE opening game of the Bolton Hospital Cup went to the wire as Turton beat Radcliffe Town on penalties.

Turton raced into an early two-goal lead through Bry Leaver and Gordon Watson inside the opening 24 minutes.

Radcliffe hit back after the break with Scot Sevill pulling a goal back on 64 minutes and Paul Wilkinson equalising five minutes later.

With neither side able to grab the winner from open play, the game went to penalties with Radcliffe missing two of their first four and Turton taking full advantage to move into the next round.
