EAGLEY reached the final of the prestigious Richardson Cup following a close 1-0 victory over rivals Charnock Richard.

The Villagers almost went in front on six minutes when Liam Carr failed by inches to connect with a Kevan Hughes cross. On 23 minutes Charnock were awarded a penalty following a foul in the box, but Simon Foddens well struck shot was superbly saved by Eagley keeper Mark Warren.

The Villagers bounced back immediately with Danny Hamer breaking clear and forcing a fine save from Dave McDonnagh.

Eagley came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. On 50 minutes McDonnagh made a superb double save from Carl Grimshaw and Hamer.

The deadlock was finally broke 10 minutes later when Carr was bundled over in the box, and gave the keeper no chance from the spot.

Eagley held on to qualify for the final for the second time in three seasons.

Eagley Reserves went down 1-0 at Coppull.
