A PROMISED pedestrian crossing a on a busy Euxton road has been put back
after delays on the new Buckshaw Village development.
Plans for a crossing on Euxton Lane, close to the Bay Horse pub, were
approved eight months ago following a petition signed by thousands of
concerned residents.
Lancashire County Council now say work can only begin on the site after
problems with the nearby roundabout on Central Avenue have been
resolved.
The council is waiting for the completion and opening of Central Avenue
which will link Euxton Lane and Dawson Lane in mid-May.
Work on the crossing will then begin and will also include resurfacing
the junction.
Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle, who led a campaign for the construction of the
crossing, said: "I was concerned about the length of time it was taking
for the work to be carried out, so I contacted the county council and
they told me that it would be delayed."
He added: "The only reason Central Avenue is not being opened is because
there's a design fault on the new roundabout.
"This has held up that much needed pedestrian crossing at a very, very
dangerous junction which is stopping people from being able to cross
safely."
The county council said work on the crossing would be carried out as
soon as possible."
