DETECTIVES are trying to establish whether a man discovered collapsed in a Bolton street was the victim of an attack - or had fallen.

A post mortem examination has revealed that 33-year-old Robert Farnworth died as the result of a head injury.

Mr Farnworth was discovered lying collapsed on Coe Street, near to Bolton town centre, early on Sunday morning and died on Monday after being transferred to Chorley Hospital.

Police are continuing to appeal for information surrounding Mr Farnworth's death.

They are keen to speak to the driver of a dark-coloured saloon car who spotted him lying in the street.

The motorist went to try and help Mr Farnworth of Bradford Road, Bolton, before driving to Bridgeman Street where he told a couple to raise the alarm with emergency services before driving off.

Detectives are examining the possibility that Mr Farnworth suffered a heavy fall, but have not ruled out an attack.

A police spokesman said: "The post-mortem examination has revealed that he died as the result of a head injury and enquiries are continuing."
