BUS and rail users in Bolton are being asked for their ideas on improvements and changes they would like to see in public transport over the next five years.
Bolton Council, along with Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, is drawing up a list of public transport priorities for the town, which will be used to apply for funding.
A provisional plan will be presented to the Government in July and will be followed by a full Local Transport Plan in March next year, which will be used to determine just how much funding is available for the town. The Greater Manchester Joint Transport Team is asking all 10 local councils across the region to submit plans.
Funding will be made available for projects below £5 million, such as junction improvements, cycle lanes, bus stop repairs and pedestrian crossings.
There will also be money available for larger projects such as bus and train station refurbishments.
Extra bus and train services could also be chartered as a result of the consultation. Roy Newton, head of the team, said: "This is a chance for people to help us get to the bottom of all the travel issues which they face day to day.
"Suggestions on anything associated with travel will be considered and appreciated. Their comments will determine how much money we will get to implement plans.
To submit suggestions log on to www.gmltp.co.uk or apply for an information pack to Greater Manchester Joint Transport Team, GMPTE, 9 Portland Street, Piccadilly Gardens. Fax 0161 242 6082 or email mail@gmltp.co.uk.
