CAR thieves smashed into petrol pumps at a Bury garage early on Saturday morning.
The BMW car had been stolen on Friday and was driven into the petrol station next to the Tesco Express store on Bolton Road at 3.30am.
One pump was destroyed and another damaged in the incident and the thieves ran from the scene before the emergency services could arrive.
Firemen made the car safe and swilled away petrol which had leaked from the petrol pump hoses. There was no danger of fire or explosion due to the safety design of the pumps.
