I FEEL I have to bring to people's attention as to how unfair I think the housing system is in the Bolton borough through the Homes For You Scheme.
I have been waiting for four years for a house move and, unfortunately, although I apply on a regular basis, the minimum being two properties each week, I am finding that, although I may come to the top of being the earliest registered, there are always people with higher priority needs that get the offers that often others have been waiting for.
While I respect there are people with higher needs, I feel they should not be getting the choice to pick and choose which houses they want when some people have been waiting years for a property. I am finding some people only registered a few weeks ago are choosing houses and getting them offered right away.
Sadly, I feel a lot of the Bolton public don't know how the system works and I feel it is time we returned to the old system, like many of the councils in the UK use.
The Homes For You Scheme, in my opinion, is worthless, as those waiting are often missed out because someone with higher needs get first choice. I have only been registered for four years, which does not seem like a long time - there are people who have been registered a lot longer who are in the same situation. Surely someone who is desperate for re-housing would be happy to accept any house, in perhaps an area of their choice, and then, once re-housed, apply through Homes For You like everybody else has to.
Personally, I am sick of the housing scheme in Bolton, it has the monopoly over everything; we cannot even go through Housing Associations privately now because everything has to be done through Homes For You.
