THE recent letters by Sean Harkin (May 13) and James Marshall Bridge (May 21) are not going far enough in their assessment of the low paid immigrants.
Sean Harkin tells us that he is a student of political correctness - perhaps, but not of economics.
A low paid worker will pay very little, if any, income tax the same with National Insurance contribution. The same low pay will entitle him to claim family income supplement, community charge rebate, housing benefits, and a dozen other "benefits". His net contributions to the economy will be a massive minus.
This is because the State is paying the wages that should be paid by the employer.
The capitalists in this country are all now pursuing the policy of transforming all manufacturing jobs abroad, where they can add even more to their huge wealth.
