A NEW piece of tracking equipment has been donated to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
A Global Positioning System (GPS) unit was given to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team by The Rescue Organisation Equipment Loan Scheme (ROELS), which is a charity set up to help such organisations.
The GPS unit gives team members' locations accurate to within one metre.
The unit, which is about the size of a mobile camera phone, works in a similar way to satellite navigation systems found in cars.
Some members already own personal GPS units, but this is the first hand-held unit to be owned by the whole team.
A spokesperson for the Rescue Team said: "We are very grateful for the donation and it will prove to be a useful piece of equipment."
It is likely that the unit will be based in their new control trailer, which is due to be completed next month.
