A CORONATION Street favourite has given his paw print of approval to a veterinary hospital.

Great Dane Schmeichel, who stars as Chesney's pet in the soap, was a guest of Petmedic Veterinary Surgeons, which has moved from its premises in Walkden to the Wardley Business Park in Worsley.

Schmeichel is a regular client and was on hand for the new surgery's opening.

He posed for photographs with many of the 200 visitors who attended the open day .

As well as meeting Schmeichel, visitors were entertained by a clown and were given a guided tour of the surgery and its new shop.

Organisers hope the event raised several hundred pounds for the Animal Health Trust, which helps fund treatment for pets whose families cannot afford it.

Petmedics spokeswoman Mary Roderick said: "It was a wonderful day.

"We had so much fun and Schmeichel is just a superstar."
