WITHINS won the first Bolton schools cycling competition at the Manchester Velodrome.
Withins took on teams of 15 riders, aged between 11 and 14, from Sharples, Thornleigh and Farnworth's St James at one-lap time trials and team pursuit.
The boys team pursuit was won by the Sharples trio of Curtis Taylor, Mark Lawson and Paul Williams in a time of 1min 5.46 secs while the girls team pursuit was won by the Withins team of Kerys Walker, Samantha Ferguson and Samantha Ford in 1:11.43. The fastest one-lap time trial for boys was 21.34 secs recorded by Sharples' Ashley Marsden with Samantha Ford of Withins recording the fastest one-lap by a girl of 22.56 secs.
Withins won the overall team prize from Sharples in second.
