Tonge A reached the final of the Warburton Cup after beating Radcliffe Cricket Club 5-2, and will play Ramsbottom A in the final. Ellesmere A join Ladybridge B in the final of the George Yates Shield following their 7-2 win over Hilton C.
Tonge A closed the gap on Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom A with a 7-2 win against Hilton Tameside.
They are now two points adrift and the title will be decided when the two teams play each other in the final match of the season. Nomads A who were beaten 8-1 by Burning Desire A will be the relegated team. Mike Moir of Ramsbottom A is the Top Ten leader having recorded two more wins than Dave Griffith.
Only one point separates the two top teams in Division One, with Little Lever C moving ahead of Burning Desire B on the strength of their 7-2 win against YMCA, while Burning Desire could only score a 6-3 win at Wharton B.
There were trebles for the Little Lever pair John Hutchinson and Ian Lansdale while all three Burning Desire players won two sets in their match. Heaton B surprisingly beat their A team 6-3, which included three wins from a back in-form John Scowcroft, and Ramsbottom B comfortably beat a two-man Little Lever B 8-1.
The two top teams in Division Two both played their match without their number one player, and both recorded 5-4 wins, which means Heaton C maintain their four point advantage over Hilton I with one match to play. Heaton beat Nomads B with Gareth Palmer unbeaten for Nomads while the Hilton win was against Tonge B for whom Reena Ardeshana won her three sets.
Hilton D brought the recent run of wins by Heaton D to an end, winning 6-3 with three wins by John Biggins. Alan Crompton trebled for Heaton E who lost 6-3 at Ramsbottom C. Little Lever D scored their third win of the season with a 5-4 score-line against Hilton C.
The current Division Three leaders, Hilton I, surprisingly beat one of their nearest rivals and joint second in the table, Ellesmere A.
The victory included three wins by Eamon McEntee and two each for Andy Harris and Mike Roberts. The other team in second spot BEN A won 7-2 at Ellesmere B with three wins apiece by Cathy Harrison and Mike Heaton. Ellesmere and BEN are 13 points behind Hilton I but both teams have a match in hand.
Three wins by Craig Rushton and Gill Marsden gave Hilton F a 6-3 win at Hilton J.
BEN B, who beat Hilton M 7-2, now look certain to take the Division Four title. They are 18 points ahead of Heaton F in second place which is still up for grabs.
Current holders of this spot, Heaton F, lost 5-4 to the team in third place, Bolton YMCA, despite three wins by Dave Bevitt. Ladybridge C in fourth place with two matches in hand could jump ahead of the two if they achieve the right results.
This week they won 8-1 at Tonge D. Rachel Griffith trebled for Tonge C with one win for Steven Hall and Stuart McCraig to give them their 5-4 win over Ladybridge D. Three wins for Top Ten leader John Pilkington, three for Andy Cafferky, and one for Lea Clough gave Hilton K a 7-2 win at Irlam.
