ONE of Bolton's top police officers has left the town to become head of the force in Bury.
Chief Supt Janette McCormick will become Bury's first ever woman police chief when she took up the post on Monday.
The promotion comes just eight months after she was appointed as a superintendent in Bolton after being transferred from Greater Manchester Police's traffic unit.
Chief Supt McCormick will be responsible for approximately 315 full-time police officers, 80 civilian staff including 20 police support officers and 35 specials.
She replaces Chief Superintendent Garry Shewan who has been Bury's divisional commander since January last year. Meanwhile a nurse has been appointed at Bury police station to help care for offenders taken into custody.
Michelle Wood will be based full time at the station to complement the medical service already in place to look after offenders.
