THE Scout Moor wind farm north of Bury - 2,600m plus turbines - has been given the go-ahead.
Its construction will, in my opinion, destroy a large area of upland moorland of outstanding natural and historical significance, and will be visible as a monumental folly to the three-and-a-half million inhabitants of Greater Manchester.
Almost in the same breath, the news broke that Manchester Airport is to double in size within the next 10 years.
How many wind turbines would we need just to neutralise the increase in carbon dioxide produced by all these extra flights?
Should we perhaps consider reducing consumption before our countryside is irreversibly destroyed?
