BOLTON South-east MP Brian Iddon has given his backing to two major cancer charities.
Dr Iddon has tabled a House of Commons Early Day Motion congratulating the Breast Cancer Campaign for its efforts to fund research.
The motion, which has been backed by MPs from all major parties, also asks the Government to make proven treatments available to patients quickly.
Dr Iddon said: "Almost 13,000 people will die from breast cancer in the UK in 2005.
"This staggering figure highlights the need for world-class research in this area to try to stop such tragedies from happening.
"Breast cancer is very common, in both men and women, and the work of charities like Breast Cancer Campaign is vitally important in helping those affected by this disease."
Dr Iddon has also pledged his support to Macmillan Cancer Reliefs Week of Hats.
The event runs until Sunday and encourages people to wear a hat while raising money for the care charity.
Dr Iddon said: "One in three people are affected by cancer at some point in their life.
"The need for Macmillan Cancer Relief and the services it provides, is greater than ever."
