A FAMILY of six was forced to flee their Farnworth flat after arsonists started a fire.
The blaze was started in a shed at the back of Supreme Convenience Store, Plodder Lane, at 4.30am on Wednesday.
It quickly spread through the shed which was used for storage and contained paint. It then spread to storage rooms at the shop.
Flames reached the bathroom of the first floor flat and the family were alerted by a smoke alarm.
Leading fireman Paul Rushby said: "The smoke alarm saved this familys life.
"This family was able to leave safely and were alerted to the fire at an early stage because of their smoke alarm."
Police are investigating.
