IN your article on "Bolton's Child Star" published on Saturday, May 21, you wrote in the second paragraph ... "the pair were appearing at the Grand Theatre, Bolton, in aid of BLESMA funds".
I am not a local reader, but as General Secretary of BLESMA, having picked up your mention of this special organisation, I thought you ought to know that BLESMA - The British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association - has a long association with Bolton, dating back to July 1944, when amputees returning home from war service decided to form a branch of this fast growing national organisation in Bolton. It served their interest until the late 1990s.
We still have members living in Bolton. Most of them will be thinking back 60 years as national celebrations for their sacrifice get going over the summer. Thankfully, we don't have the vast influx of young that we had across the country in those dark days, but there is always a constant trickle of new members.
Lastly, I wonder what the connection between the Dinky Dots and BLESMA was - perhaps one of their dads was a member - maybe one of your readers will know!
With all good wishes.
