ON Thursday June 9, Eve Lloyd wrote, "Why should younger drivers be penalised with higher insurance premiums? It seems to me the older generation pose the most threat."
I suggest she reads the Bolton Evening News motoring supplement of the same date with the picture of an accident and caption which read, "Young men are the biggest culprits in road accidents that end tragically for their mates and girlfriends" with the heading: "Putting the brakes on young car drivers".
I won't repeat the statistics the article gave and congratulate her that at 20 she is accident free and wonder if she can still say that when she is 80! I am in my 80s and haven't been in an accident since 1963 and have a full no claims bonus.
I am appalled at the general standard of driving. Just one example is when I am driving down Moss Bank Way at the speed limit of 30 mph across the Halliwell Road junction and the road goes into a single lane, vehicles overtake me at 40 and 50 mph and then expect to be allowed in at the last minute so I have to brake and slow down in order to stop an accident. I could have been in many accidents if I didn't take evasive measures.
