READING the comment and analysis on Thursday (June 9), it states that Bolton's 261,000 residents make it the biggest town in the UK.
I have a multi-media dictionary. In it, it says that Wigan has a population of 301,417 (2001) and an area of 77 square miles, with Bolton having a population of 261,035 and an area of 54 square miles.
If this is correct, and not a misprint, Bolton cannot be the biggest town in the UK.
