I DO sympathise with Vilma Steel (Letters, June 8). I feel it is unfair to criticise Sir Bob Geldof.
We as a nation are always whinging about shortages of cash for schools and hospitals, yet most of the nation has no idea what the capitalist world spends on weapons.
I recently read that the world spends £6 trillion on weapons - or £640bn pounds.
A TV item said there are 60,000 millionaires in New York alone. Sir Paul McCartney has a personal fortune of £850m, and, as stewards of the planet, we will all have to answer to God for our way of life.
The USA keeps producing 4/10 litre petrol engines that do only eight miles per gallon. The USA has 1/12th of the worlds population, yet it consumes 25 per cent of the worlds energy.
The good people of the USA need to do a Bob Geldof and get the people to be aware, for starters.
