WALSHAW will be looking to complete their climb to the top of the Bolton Association this weekend.

The Bury side, who have won four titles in the last six seasons, have been in formidable form for several weeks and are just two points behind leaders Standish.

But with Standish having a rest day on Saturday and Walshaw playing two games this weekend, the latter will fancy their chances of hitting top.

The top two enjoyed a successful weekend as they were the only teams to record two victories.

Their games were the only ones to be completed on Sunday as the rain forced the other five matches to be abandoned.

They had convincing wins on Saturday when fellow serious title challengers, Darcy Lever, also won.

Darcy slipped of the pace on Sunday when it was their turn to take a rest but they are just 10 points adrift of Standish who have played a game more than both Walshaw and Darcy.

It is building up to being an exciting title race and the likes of Golborne, Little Hulton, Atherton and Spring View cannot be ruled out as they are only two or three wins away from getting up with the leaders.

Standish had a perfect weekend as they won both games without losing a single wicket.

Sundays game against Astley and Tyldesley was reduced to 30 overs due to the rain.

A&T pro Suresh Raina continued his prolific form with a fantastic 110 as the visitors made 165-6.

There was no support for him, however, as the next best batsman was Mark Cutt with 17.

Standish had six overs remaining when they passed the target with openers Nigel Geary and pro Glen Batticciotto unbeaten on 94 and 66 respectively.

Walshaw batted first at Blackrod and made 139-1 when the rain threatened to wipe out play.

Anthony Harris struck 68 and Jason Whittaker was unbeaten on 53. The rain relented and Blackrod were set a revised target of 114 off 24 overs. But they were bowled out for 79, Jack Southworth top scoring with 24.

Walshaw pro Jonathan Fielding did most of the damage with 6-39 and Whittaker took 3-34.

Highlights of the abandoned games included a 56 for Edgworths Dave Cameron, an unbeaten 39 for his team-mate Nick Kernick and three wickets for Eltons Phil Donnelly in the same game.

Brett Collins also took three out of four wickets to fall for Little Hulton at Daisy Hill.

Adlington's Andrew Robinson was 43 not out and Chris Mulligan was 28 not out at Spring View and Yogesh Galwalker took 3-13 for Atherton against Clifton.
