A FORMER Bolton School pupil has been named a judge by the Lord Chancellor.
Roy Battersby, aged 62, from Bromley Cross, took on the role of immigration adjudicator four years ago.
The married father-of-two sits in Manchester hearing immigration and asylum appeals.
Now he has been given the title judge.
He came to the job after 30 years practising as a solicitor in Rossendale and his success in the law follows a family tradition.
His older brother Graham, aged 67, has recently retired as professor of law at Sheffield University and is an expert in property law.
The brothers were both born in Bolton, the sons of Celia and Joseph Battersby, and grew up in Heaton, attending Bolton School.
Graham gained a place at Oxford University to study law where he was awarded a first-class degree.
He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn before going on to lecture in the subject.
Roy studied at Newcastle University and became a solicitor.
