MOTORING enthusiasts toured Lancashire in style when they took part in the 10th annual Bolton Hospice Classic Car Run.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Frank White, and a crowd of spectators, watched as 72 cars, ranging from a 1923 Model T4 through to a Firebird F400, started the 60 mile run from the Watermillock on Crompton Way.

Cars of all shapes and sizes cruised through Edgworth, Blackburn, Ribchester, Belmont and Rivington, before finishing off at Bolton Community Colleges Horwich campus.

Among the vehicles were models of the Austin Healey and a Cadillac Coupe De Ville - the largest car at the event.

The rally has raised more than £30,000 for Bolton Hospice over the last nine years.

This year's outing was no exception and organisers estimated that it raised between £2,700 and £3,000, which matched last years total.

Rally co-ordinator Trevor Jackson hailed the event a success.

He said: "The run was excellent this year. The hot weather did hamper some of the entrants, with some cars overheating but the majority made it back to the finish line in one piece.

"Many thanks must go to all the entrants and volunteers who helped make this years run such a success."

On Saturday, the hospice held its annual fundraising gala.

Aromatherapy, reiki, book stalls, henna painting and a magician were among the Yellow Summer Gala attractions.

The Mayor and Mayoress and Wanderers mascot Lofty the Lion were among the guests.

The hospice highlighted their yellow ribbon appeal, in which relatives and friends of people who have passed away at the hospice can hang a ribbon from a tree in tribute.
