THEY may not have the talent to make it as a Bolton Wanderers player, but high school pupils have been told there are plenty of career opportunities available to them in sport - if they "Aimhigher".
The Aimhigher roadshow drove into Ladybridge High School recently as part of a national campaign to highlight the benefits of a university education.
The roadshow is now in its fourth year, and recent research has revealed a 43 per cent positive shift in students attitudes to higher education following the presentation.
Pupils are invited on to a 27ft trailer to provide an alternative to a classroom.
Joining the roadshow at the Bolton school were representatives from Bolton Wanderers football in the community team, who explained the many career opportunities in sport for those who go on to higher education.
These could include medical careers such as physiotherapy to public relations.
Geoff Lomax, community manager for Bolton Wanderers, said: "We received positive feedback from the football in the community team.
"Sport is the biggest growing industry today and we wanted to show the opportunities available to pupils if they went on to further education.
"The opportunities available were quite an eye-opener for some of the pupils. We explained that there were opportunities not only available with us, but also in local authorities and sports centres."
Alasdair Weir, of Aimhigher, said: "The main thing is to get young people excited about higher education and to realise they can have a job doing something they love."
