IF you are planning to beat Wayne Bradley away from the lights - think again.

That is unless you can match the Farnworth motorcyclist's supercharged acceleration that can take him from an astonishing 0-190mph in just eight seconds.

That's the phenomenal speed he reaches when he competes in the motorcycle sprints, the latest of which has just brought him another major honour.

Wayne, from Rawson Stret, Farnworth, has just won the Ramsey Sprint on the Isle of Man for a seventh time, and he is aiming to add further titles when he competes in the British sprint Championships later this year.

"I have a couple of bikes, and for the nationals I'll roll out a Suzuki 1300cc turbo, which over a quarter mile sprint can reach speeds of nearly 200mph in a matter of seconds," he said.

"And believe it or not there are some bikes that can go faster than that."

On the Isle of Man, Wayne was on familiar territory having been competing there since 1974.

"I love it," he said. "I go over there and combine a holiday with watching the TT races before taking part in the sprints."

The sprints are played out on the promenade at Ramsey but the course is limited to an eighth of a mile stretch.

"I have a Honda 900cc Fireblade for that, and because it's only a short course, I just get up to about 109mph in seven seconds.

"At speeds like that I just simply ride on the back wheel with the front one raised a few inches. It's incredible and with around 40,000 spectators lining the promendae and cheering you on, it's quite a spectacle."
