POWERGEN Challenge Cup outsiders Leigh Centurions insist they are "not just making up the numbers" in this weekend's quarter-finals.
Rated as absolute no hopers by most people outside of Leigh, the Centurions don't feel that a victory at the KC Stadium against Hull on Saturday (3pm) is beyond them.
They only need to point back to last Friday where they gave Hull something of a scare before finally going down 30-16 in a Super League clash. With Leigh hoping that some of their injured stars will be back on deck this weekend, they believe they can go one better.
A return trip to the KC so quickly doesn"t worry coach Darren Abram. He says: "We relish going there again and taking on Hull because you never know what might happen in the cup. John Kear should know all about that from his time at Sheffield. We just need to take the positives from last Friday and work on the rest and we'll give ourselves a great shout of being in a cup semi.
"We're not in this competition just to make up the numbers. We'll be giving it our best shot to win the thing."
Although Abram won't be able to call on either Robbie Mears or Warren Stevens - both are cup tied - on Saturday, he hopes that John Wilshere, Jason Kent, Rob Jackson and Paul Rowley will be fit to return.
Utility back Kent has microstitches in an eye wound after the Warrington game, Jones KO'd at Hull while Wilshere (ankle) and Rowley (back) pulled out of the trip to Hull 24 hours before kick off. Phil Jones, who damaged his knee against Warrington, will be given a late fitness check. But there is little chance of Rob Smyth (ribs) or James King (knee) returning.
Hull will without back rower Chris Chester who was banned for one game and fined £350 for the high tackle that put Jackson out of Friday"s game at the KC. But international prop Paul King is expected to be back after resting a wrist injury while there is every chance the utility back Richard Whiting (shoulder) and Kiwi Motu Tony (fractured cheekbone) will also return.
