GOLFERS from three local clubs will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of two champion Columbian golfers.
Pablo Hernandez, 20, and Julio Garcia Salas, 28, romped to a four-point win from English teenagers Robbie Turner, 17, and Ian Ritchie, 16, in the 36-hole International Pairs World Final at Celtic Manor an event which has already attracted 36 countries next year.
Members from Turton, Dunscar and Westhoughton Golf Clubs have the chance to follow them on on the road to possible world glory this summer.
The winning pairs from each club go on to the International Pairs semi-finals, to be held in Scotland on October 5, and the qualifiers stay for an incredible two days at St Andrews Bay for the 36-hole final, one of the finest golf establishments in the British Isles.
The eventual winning pair from each of the home countries will head to Wales in 2006 to represent their country in the World Finals an a venue yet to be announced. All that is possible for an original entry of just £5.
Turton have already held their competition with Russell Allen and Adrian Gittins scoring 47pts to send them on their way to Scotland.
Westhoughton hold their qualifier on July 3, with Dunscar on July 9.
Dunscar hit the headlines two years ago when 92-year-old Ron Millington and Arthur Hart reached the semi-final, while the previous year Steve Greenough and Mark Riley reached the final.
It is not too late for clubs to enter.
