SHARP-SHOOTER Kate Grime is setting her sights even higher after winning back-to-back national shooting titles.

Kate, aged 25, took up clay pigeon shooting just three-and-a-half years ago, but recently won the British Women's Championship in Automatic Ball Tap - a category of clay pigeon shooting - for the second year in a row.

Her father Ken, a former European champion, co-owns the A6 Clay Target Centre in Westhoughton, and it was there that she started shooting.

Kate said: "I worked for my dad on my days off when I was at university, and one day he asked me if I wanted a go at shooting. I loved it as soon as I tried it."

Kate takes part in shooting competitions almost every weekend of the year and is hoping to gain a position in the Great Britain team.

She said: "I've represented England ladies for the past two years, which has taken me all over the UK, but the ultimate aim would be to shoot for Britain and maybe one day even reach the Olympics.

"I'm relatively young compared to other competitors, so I've a good few years yet to fulfil my ambitions."

Miss Grime, who lives in Newton-Le-Willows, is working on a PhD thesis on performances of male and female shooters.
